Before Writing the Alphabet is the second workbook in the How to Teach Your Child to Write Well guide for people who wish to teach, learn or re-learn cursive writing.
In this workbook, we suggest simple, playful exercises to do with the child to develop good graphomotor habits.
The child already knows how to hold a pencil (Workbook 1 – Holding a Pencil), but certain graphomotor skills are required before learning to write the letters of the alphabet (Workbook 3 – Writing the Alphabet). Before Writing the Alphabet teaches the child about horizontality and the left-to-right movement, explores the different areas of the writing space and shows how to make and combine the basic writing shapes – loops, garlands, arcades and circles.
